Finding Comfort in Our Community
“In a cold world, you still need your friends to keep you warm.” (The Big Chill, 1983)
As we say goodbye to Coach Paterno, Penn Staters everywhere can take comfort in friends and in the deep sense of community that we are so fortunate to enjoy as Penn State alumni. Looking back, Joe played a role in the best times of our lives – from tailgating to Bowl trips to games at Beaver Stadium.
For many of us, they still continue to this day. Joe’s passing reminds us of what is most important in life: our lifelong connections to those who mean the most, including our KDR
brothers.
There are plenty of opportunities to celebrate being a part of the Penn State community with the friends you met there:
THON – February 17-19. You can honor Joe’s wish (a fraternity guy himself) by making a donation to this great cause.
Blue/White Weekend – April 20-22
Arts Fest – July 12-15

JoePa Has Left an Impactful Mark By Jake Robatel '13
No matter your opinion on all the recent events, we all can agree that Joe Paterno has left a significant and impactful mark on our campus and community.
Joepa is someone who connects us all. No matter if you are an alumni from the 60s or an active, in one way or another, we all came to this school because of Joepa.
Alumni from all over the country made the trip back to State College to pay their respects, and undergrads and alumni alike stood and grieved as one.
Despite his departure, Joepa's mark on this University will remain. It's hard to go anywhere and not be reminded of him. Many stores have a cardboard cut of him in their windows...his name is on our library...his house will always be Paterno's house...and I have a feeling much more will be done to preserve his memory.
Once we get past the mourning of his death we can begin to celebrate his life.
"Believe deep down in your heart that you're destined to do great things." - Joe Paterno

From the Archives
This is a really cool photo from the KDR archives we came across. It was taken during a party in our living room at the house with Lynn Christy and His PennStatesmen, possibly in the early 1940s. It looks like there is someone's name in the top right corner. I know, one of you will say that you see Tom Fuchs in the background again. What a neat photo with what has to jog a fond memory from somebody. Does anyone know anything about this photo?

Back to 1963
Thanks to Bill Johnston '63 for giving us the story behind this 1963 photo from our archives. "This was the Spring Week parade and it was Steve Rhodes who painted his skin black to depict an African and the theme of the parade was famous movies and books and KDR's was "Around the World in Seven Days". I was KDR chair of Spring Week and we ended up near the top or winning spring week (not that I impacted that) but we had a guy named Gene Rinkus who won the Spring Week King contest by winning the field events etc.

Remembering Kevin The recent tragedy surrounding a THON canning trip for SDTs and KDRs, in which SDT sorority sister Courtney O'Bryan and other students were sent to the hospital, got many of our brothers from the '70s and '80s remembering a similar tragedy back in 1978 where Kevin Steinberg (a KDR) lost his life in a car accident when a group of students were driving to the Hershey Medical Center to deliver that year's THON check to the Four Diamonds Fund.
